Remedies
you turn left at the Jesus statue
go about halfway up
past that old barn they
burned down last Halloween
then hang a right
when you get there
go up on the porch
ask for old Patrick
he can stop blood,
they say he got it from
his papaw, who was
a seventh son of a seventh son,
I don’t know though
never much cared
for all those old timey
remedies
but they say
it works

Yes, seventh son of the seventh son. Powerful magic there. Thanks for sharing.
Like that this is a skinny poem — moves in fits and starts, full of mystery.
The modern medicine I’m seeing these days might as well try Old Timey
This reminds me of my daddy. He went out on farms to fix tractor tires. He’d get directions like that for half of his jobs. Also, my grandfather WAS a seventh son of a seventh son.
This poem brings back memories of when I sold country real estate and I would receive these directions. They contain such history for an area!
