Shiver
In lieu of school
groups of sharks
are given the
moniker shiver.
Is it for the sleek silver
bodies that ease
effortlessly
in the sea
Hunting their prey
Mating
Playing
Cavorting?
Or does it rise
from unfounded fear
from those who
know little of them?
As I swim
with them
their exquisite
movements
draw me in…
chill bumps
slither down
my arms.

I love the sonic interplay between “slither” and “shiver”
Nice use of sound
The sonics, and the sleek form!
Thanks all!
Linda – This poem lets the reader swim easily among the lines. The beauty of underwater life often makes us forget the danger — and the shivers!
I agree with the others; great sounds and concise use of form!
This poem pulls me into the shiver. Wonderful!
Great “s” sounds in this poem – sharks, silver, shiver and the exquisite slither!
Nice use of alliteration. The movement of the poem from abstract to concrete is like moving from a sky view right into the water to feel the chill bumps.
