Speaking on Speaking
I just want to form lines in a way that’s
understood even if I have to get loud,
The grammatical syntax and execution
Empties all the seats of a crowd,
Empties all the seats of a crowd,
I wanna stumble in my diction, cause friction
and spit new words out my mouth,
and spit new words out my mouth,
Surprise my damn self and have to
question if I said that shit aloud,
question if I said that shit aloud,
I’d like to solve the mystery of knowing
what being known for speaking is all about,
what being known for speaking is all about,
The difference between being known and
having a collection of words in a tome with no clout,
having a collection of words in a tome with no clout,
Maybe standing in street with a large circle of poets,
battling from my heart bout for bout.
battling from my heart bout for bout.

I like the image of “standing in street with a large circle of poets”–something like LexPoMo, eh?
I had been waiting for inspiration most of the day and this came in the twilight hour.
This Writer’s Challenge is definitely inspirational!
I just read this to “wiggling fingers”
By Pati Griffin. That’s the second time that’s happened today……..
Funny.
Great meter and from concept of this to visuals.. I can see it !
Great poem!
Thank you
I love the rhythms of this piece and especially identity with “Surprise my damn self and have to/question if I said that shit aloud,” because that’s so true to me too.
I often think, perhaps I’ve written a song rather than a poem.
I’ve heard you speak, eloquently and forcefully, at Kenwick Table. You definitely said that shit out loud, for which I thank you.
There is a fear and passion that spikes performance adrenaline.
I’m working on achieving balance to stand next to fire that warms to the marrow of the bone, but doesn’t consume.
