Surreal Estate
Maggie Smith, I’ve got
good bones, too, but my body
is a house on fire.
Oh Maggie, what can we do
to make this place beautiful?

One of my favorite poems of hers! Your tanka is a poignant echo.
Thanks Kevin. It’s hard to write a full poem every day. People around ne keep pressuring me to live life instead.
Good take off on her memorable work
Thanks Pat!
Nice !!!
Thanks for reading, Coleman.
Love the word play in the title! Clever.
Thanks Sylvia.
Felt this! The question echos out.
Thanks for all of your attention to my poems. See you at next week’s open mic.
Nice wordplay.
Perhaps the response
to your question:
“Just don’t tell the Kids.” ?
Thanks Jum.
Really enjoyed this.
Thanjs so much!
Oh that’s so funny… I was just thinking two days ago of a riff I want to do off of this same poem! But it snowballed in my head into an essay, not a poem. Maybe I’ll sketch out my idea here first though. Also, I feel ya — I’m getting pulled into life more too this week and I just want to retreat and write poems! But we must live life to write poems? Ah, the contradictions!
I want to see your riffs on “Good Bones.”
