The Emperor; A Reading
– After Christopher McCurry’s
“A Snake, Two Bodies, One Head”
I don’t much like the man, any more,
the way he lounges on his throne,
watchful of the way things are
away in the fields
but he does have a kingdom,
and the guides
drew him forth, in two decks,
so this
is me. Or how they see
Me
and a spread of others, cast about
the table speaks:
The Two of Coins.
The Two of Swords.
The Hanged Man
and The Hermit.
For once–finally–I get
to choose
which body
withers away–
which gets
to grow
once
the deck
is cut.

This is amazing. Now that you’ve said it all I can see is Jacob. Splitting his group into two pieces so if one was destroyed the other could escape. The emperor rises…challenge accepted.
Definitely wasn’t in my head as I wrote, but also definitely parallels. I love watching the themes (almost groupspeak) that develop during PoMo. Two days ago, it was music, and a steady stream of speak or be silent (for obvious reasons) this summer.
Again, glad you participated this year. Iron sharpening thought iron!
Yes it is! I love the synchronicity and spurring to thought
Love weaving the tarot about that simple but wonderful stanza of “so this/ is me. Or how the see/ Me.” Creates wonderful dichotomy on who is reading/seeing who in perspective.

Thank you, sir 🙂
