The Good Dog, Grail
Bananas have lost
Their flavor diminished
By the absence of her
Carrots have lost
Their crunch diminished
By the absence of her
Greenbeans have lost
Their snap diminished
By the absence of her
My world has lost
Its color diminished By the absence of her
Black and white and love all over

Love the deadpan tone and the reference to a rhyme we all know, it drives this feeling into the universal.
Oh what a tender homage.
I enjoy a good veggie, too.
May that good dog’s memory be a blessing.
Thank you for this poem.
Beautiful heart, Louise. Flavor of John Updike’s “Dog’s Death.” Good dog.
