At this very moment on the world’s
other side she is squatting over
buzzing flies and broken concrete
as her legs vibrate with the primal thump
of bombardment not far away.

At this very moment at the edge
of  the forest 2 young boys giggle as
their urine-streams fight while an unseen
pair of green eyes in the leaves is deciding
which one of them is breakfast.

At this very moment I’m sitting down
so I don’t have to turn on the light; the
dependable plumbing and the white noise
of the fan conspire to deny everything.
