The Weight of Water #17
On that quiet
late
Hawaiian afternoon
when you were suddenly
a child again
seeing the ocean for the first time
in your one piece bathing suit
fabric flapping
in the rise and fall of the water
while you examined
tiny
colored rocks
in the shallows of the Pacific
your thinning red hair
wisping in the wind
late fifty something
going on five again
the way
I will always
want to remember you there

Love the one traveling in this poem.
Time traveling
💙💔 adore this, sir
Lovely poem!
in the shallows of the Pacific
your thinning red hair
wisping in the wind
– such tenderness and frailty in these lines
I have stood in the shallows of the Pacific, but I was not young and carefree, unfortunately. Great write…
