The Weight of Water #2
You
want to wring out your words
in the sink
like that summer didn’t break us
like we shouldn’t be done
and all I want to remember
about that summer
is the way the water rippled
in reflection
on the roof of that indoor swimming pool
while I floated away
forgetting you.

Oof!
This is such a deep poem with so few words.
Ouch! Great.
It has a Tom Petty feel to it. I like love poems that are get-away-from love poems.
That last line stings.
Nice use of water throughout.

Eric, it is good to read your work. I spent time at EKU as a part-time student and wrote for the journal there many times. I was fortunate to work with many well-known authors: Harriett Arnow, Holllis Summers, Jack Matthews, Jim Wayne Miller, and others. I published a book of poetry for Dorothty Sutton. Your poem reminds me of some of my poems.
Love the pool water weight of the loss.
