These dreams we sing for
The curl
That rings
In a restrained note
These are the dreams
We sing for
A golden hair
Half-dark lifts
At the nape of my neck
These are the dreams
We sing for
Can feel
Her eyes
Closing in focus
Searching
The breadth
Of the power of lungs
These are the dreams
We sing for
These are the gifts
We give small children
These are the dreams
We search for
Surrender
To training
Making vocal jet streams
These are the dreams
We hope for
Giving in
To what
We are made for
To hit
Ocean floors
And rise like a torrent
These are the dreams
We live for
Without
The chance
No new mermaids will be born
These are the dreams
We should encourage
We are solid
For such a short time
These are the dreams
We sing for
So a voice
Can echo
Against
A piano
And create a the sea’s true aria

Rhapsodic! Beautiful. Thank you.
I really love where this poem takes me.
It is surprising, and resonates with the power of the voice.
I love the spiritual viewpoint throughout…
I want it to be sung.
“We are solid for such a short time”… captivating, Genevieve!
