This is a Haiku about how no matter how many times you told me to “grow up” or “calm down” or “nobody asked you” or “someday you’ll learn to shut your mouth” or “it isn’t THAT funny” or “it isn’t THAT sad” or “snap out of it” or “get over yourself”, it turns out, as a matter of fact, you can’t treat Bipolar Disorder with Shame. It takes:
Lamotrigine and
Quetiapine Fumarate
And Propranolol

Wow! The title IS the poem, along with the poem.
Thank you, Kevin. After your class on ekphrastic haiku I’ve had enormous fun experimenting with the form!
I agree with Kevin. The title is wonderful, as is the juxtaposition of such a long title with such a short poem. I hope you don’t mind my adding that people who insist we could all eliminate pharmaceuticals if we just lived properly are absolutely crazy.
Thank you for your support! Crazy is as crazy does, I quite agree.
Very creative and informative poem!
Thank you, Linda!
Fantastic! The speed of the title and then the alphabet soup of the haiku screeching to a halt. So fun to read and so real at the same time.
Thank you, Julia! I’m having a lot of fun exploring strict forms like haiku.
With the wonderful title, it’s almost a kind of experimental haibun. I love it!
I was not previously aware of that form but now I’m obsessed with it! Thank you for teaching me something, Roberta!
