Trapped in an Aviary
We shuffled in sideways
Compact on a perch
Surrounded by Wrens chirping
This must be their Church
A Boutique Cafe
A group visit for the day
We just arrived, yet I knew
I don’t want to stay
My friends said,
(—though reading lips I cannot boast):
“you’ll Love it!—just
order Avocado Toast!”
Everyone seemed to talk all at once
Word collages fillied the air
I continued to wish
that I wasn’t there
Aviary Entrapment!
Until luncheon was done
I wrote poems in my head
for survival and fun!

This starts so fun and light and then a twist!
Your imagery is wonderful- especially those of an aviary that you use to compare to a boutique cafe- and “Word collages filled the air”! I agree with Deanna, the end is a delightful twist!
“This must be their Church” !! Interesting to note you and the birds are both trapped. What a strange idea for a cafe! But love the poem. I didn’t even notice the rhyme the first time through. Good job! We once went to an aviary (no cafe) and one woman kept getting attacked. Turns out she had used apple mouse in her hair. Guess the birds thought she was the treat.
Oh God this is a GREAT POEM!!!! My Daddy used to always say that when chicks get together it is like pick a little talk a little cheep cheep cheep pick alot talk a little more . . . oh God Ann you took me to the aviary at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and I became one crazy BIRD!!!! very fun poem!!!
