Traveling
Borders open, I long to fly
to somewhere I’ve never seen
get lost in streets strange to me
soak in the sound of unknown words
greet strangers with a foreign hello.
Instead I walk up a street
I’ve memorized these past closed years
greet my neighbors’ dogs by name
find a sunny table at a local cafe
eat shakshuka for breakfast.

I’d be happy to get out of my square two-mile circuit, too, especially after all those neighborhood walks just to get out of the house.the last couple of years.
You express so well how many of us feel. Love the “past closed years.” Shakshuka (hard to look it up) sounds delicious! Don’t forget your passport!
Love:
get lost in streets strange
these past closed years
Instead I walk up a street
I’ve memorized these past closed years
greet my neighbors’ dogs by name
find a sunny table at a local cafe
eat shakshuka for breakfast.
I especially like “these past closed years”
