Two Vanilla Cones
Me and Mommy saw the sweetest thing
in the DQ drive thru yesterday.
They cruised through on their rascals.
His and hers, done up just alike
only he’d added mirrors for visibility
on their trips to town.
They sat side by side.
Holding hands amongst idling SUV’s
and oblivious to the engines
and the diesel smoke.
They were distracted by each other.
Her bright white hair caught sunshine
and she flipped it like she was flirting
and it bounced like one of those clouds
sitting so perfect up above us all.
I saw her wide smile in profile
as she ordered two vanilla cones.
A mundane, fast-food, moment transformed
by their soft serve adventure.
Turns out drive thru love can last.

Absolutely lovely. A sweet moment that reminds me to keep it youthful even when I am not.
I instantly recognized the location. I used to live in Olive Hill.
Wonderful photo. Wonderful and sweet poem
A story worth telling, and you’ve told it well!
Drive-thru love! This poem is a winner.
Great. If you can roll you can troll the dq.
