untitled
Apartment complex at twilight: 20 buildings
in a snaking loop and more cars
than you’d see at the next-door discount lot,
all bathed in a jaundiced halogen
all the time.
A baby deer runs through it, eyes mad
and head down in this concrete wood–
and me, smoking, outside, whispering
oh my god baby slow down
oh my god baby slow down
won’t you please
Great description in the first verse. I love “all bathed in a jaundiced halogen.” I love the human/deer connection.
I like how the line lengths of the two stanzas echo each other–the jaundiced speaking for the innocent.
made me feel like I was there, great descriptions. thanks.
jaundiced halogen.
Great poem
