Verde
I fell into your eyes.
Found myself running through
Tall grass, blades stinging my legs
Fresh dew clinging to my toes
Hopped from one flat rock to another
Pond still sleeping, a blanket of moss
Warming the algae tucked below
Startled by the pop, pop, pop of
Miniature forest colored frogs
Throwing themselves into the water
Tip-toed between bundles of
Reed grass standing at attention
Enormous grasshopper saluting
Nostrils flaring wide with the
Scent of damp pine needles now
Creeping into the warm air
Dropped to the ground under the
Canopy of stately Jack Pine
Flat on my back to watch the wind
I fell into your eyes.
Your green eyes.

Each phrase creates a picture and calls upon a memory from the past. Beautifully written.
Love this, the imagery of things that are green all summed up in eye color. Be still my heart.
You are awesome!!!
This was a joy to read. Beautiful images and great word choice!
Well done. Also, in a direction I’ve not seen you take before. Write on!
Mary Allen, thanks. It’s pretty uplifting isn’t it? LOL.
I love these images that you paint.
Thanks so much!
Love your lush imagery – I could see and hear and smell everything! Those were some green eyes!! A treat to read this poem!
