While Taking an AED/CPR/First Aid Class
Observe your surroundings.
Look for possible dangers.
Wear protective gear
to avoid possible injury
or trauma.
Assess the person.
Notice thier breathing
and check for pupil dialation.
If responsive, make sure
they want your attention.
Do not provide care
if the person expresses
resistance to attentiveness.
If conscent is given,
introduce yourself.
Approach calmly, with a
quiet understanding tone.
Provide appropriate comfort
and care to the heart
and mind of the person.
When person demonstrates
responsiveness or appreciation
for your interest in their
well being, continue to
respond respectfully,
maintaining protection of
their heart and mind,
unless conscent is revoked.

I like how you broke up your lines. 🙂
And I love how this poem gets to what’s going on in a person internally, despite the physical care referenced in the title. Was a pleasant surprise and a hugely important observation to make.
Love this ending of this magnificent poem:
unless conscent is revoked.
Hi, Kelly, the “incidental poem” form suits the work well in my mind. I’ve read that some poets are trying to get away from metaphor these days, and slice-of-life imagery certainly serves that purpose. We still feel that more than one thing is under discussion in your poem. It turns on one word, I see. Caring and freedom loving, nicely portrayed.
