How will we find each other?

When the parades have passed
And no one shouts the words
I fought to find;
When a stranger’s smile no longer holds
A spark of feeling recognized
And the men I notice
Wear stern glares and guns
Instead of “girly” rainbow shorts andskirts;
When safety in numbers becomes
An exit strategy
Rather than an oath of protection;
And fear replaces celebration once again.
How will we find each other?
