wild to think
as i watch the evening’s shadows crescent
your face below the brim of your ballcap, blue
gaze fixed & focused, coltish
limbs growing infinitesimally
stronger & more balanced each day, listen
to the cheers of the crowd, your name
on strangers’ lips as you wind up
& release each steady pitch –
strike one!
two!
three! he’s out!
that i am the one who bestowed
it upon you, that your heart
& blood & bones
could have bloomed within my own
flawed & blemished body, that you
were once a tiny seed, some secret love
note penned & folded,
tucked away inside me.

incredible Chelsie!
the intensity of emotion comes across in the fact that there is no main clause either of the stanzas
What a beautiful poem. I love the shape and the sentiment. Stunning!

note penned & folded,

Love
Gosh this is gorgeous. That secret love note tucked away … beautiful!
It’s the end of the poem that gets me, the way you compare conception to a love note. Love it.
Thank you! I’m actually kind of conflicted about that part. 😂 I’m sure you understand.
I love this! That last stanza is a winner.
Your sense of delight and wonder watching your child is is lovely to read. Then connecting yourself as the source…love it!
Awe and motherhood—hard combo to beat.
That last stanza brings it all home!
The alliteration in the first stanza is so pleasing and sets the stage for calm awe despite the bustling setting in reality
A true gem.
Delightful beginning with focus on the pitcher
“coltish/limbs growing infinitesimally/stronger & more balanced each day” and how the strikeout in its shape turns the poem even more intimate:
that i am the one who bestowed
it upon you, that your heart
& blood & bones
could have bloomed within my own
flawed & blemished body, that you
were once a tiny seed, some secret love
note penned & folded,
tucked away inside me.
