WRITE POEM
“Write poem,” I tell myself.
“Be profound. Offer insight.”
“Reveal something new
about the universe. The
human condition.”
So…I think. “Uhmmm.
Well. I could–
nnnn…
how about?…”
Nothing. Big ‘ole
nothingburger.
I “found” nothing,
much less something
pro-found.
Then, I see you.
And you see me.
And you smile.
Suddenly, it’s
all there.
Poetic.
Human.
Real.
We move toward one another–
gravity heavy, as at the event horizon–
words no longer needed
for that which follows.

This is so very relatable and really well-written. I love the found vs. “pro-found” sentiment.
Thank you, Quackstar!
It was the title that caught my eye. I have a friend who took the Poetry Gauntlet the year before me. Apparently, on her calendar for every day of the class, she carved out time with the words “write poem.” I think we have all felt what you describe here. We have nothing to write, just NOTHING … until we do. Nice job.
Thank you, Lee! I respect your friend–poetry does seem to demand a lot from us!
Love the “big ’ole nothingburger” line: I’ve eaten several of those 🙂
Thanks for taking us on this journey.
Thank you, Bud, and me too! 🙂
What’s cool about this poem is how you could switch any other hobby into it and the sentiment largely stays the same. Yet sometimes, there just is no substitute for being around good people.
Thank you, P.C.! That is a great perspective and I agree about being around good people–like you!
“Then, I see you.
