Just a little boost just a pick-me-up
like a kiss from the wife at lunch
or the baby saying Daddy into the phone
while I’m far away teaching just something
to reinforce the dam to lock the door
and lock it again just a safety net in case
the tightrope snaps in case the bottom falls out
in case the shit goes down just a stress ball
ready to burst between my fingers
just another night of instant sleep
another morning of dragging ass
just something else to keep track of
just something else to choke on

I like how I’m not sure whether I’m getting an education on the effects of various drugs, or the human condition.

  2. Teri Foltz says:

I love your approach to this challenge. I wait each day to see what you write next. Dealing Drugs!

  3. Jessica Swafford says:

I’m just curious if you are working on a chapbook/manuscript working your way through all the antidepressants.

Not really. Just seeing what chemicals bring to mine. Starting with antipsychotics and antidepressants just seemed the easiest thing to do.
