Bio for 2025

Carol Rice enjoys writing poetry, songs, short stories, and skits. She illustrated and self-published, I’ll Be Your Friend (1988) and an activity book called, The Cherokee Kid: Will Rogers (2006). Granddaddy’s Ugly Duckling was published in Appalachian Heritage (Summer, 1993). In 2020, Carol illustrated and self-published a coloring book, called The Gift, written for her children in 1982, reminding us to honor each other and ourselves. It was translated into Spanish (El Regalo) and Swahili (Zawadi), also published in 2020. Carol has enjoyed being a musician, artist, woodworker, teacher, and mom. Today, she divides her time between a mini-farm, eleven grandchildren, a flock of chickens, a Cowdog named Rosie and her writing. She is with the Berea Writing Circle as well as Kentucky's Coming of Age which published her story, Why I Write, in their 2023 anthology. She hopes to soon publish her daughter’s favorite childhood story, called Armadillo and Jackrabbit.

Several friends have participated in programs like this and it sounded like a fun and interesting idea.
