10 years later

my goals are the same

Poem

six two six

from the moment the sun
opened my eyes today,
from the lavender honey we bought at the farmers market,
to the cat cafe,
to the homemade crab rangoon,
and a collection of plants in pots with faces and music
that i adore
and i can’t count how many times i said
“wow, you guys are my friends. that’s the best.”
but i do know that twice i said,
and completely meant,
“this is the best birthday
i’ve ever had.”

Moment of Silence (a haiku, sort of)

I am the poet

who no longer begs for words –

Earth’s pain speaks volumes.

Fireworks

What is summer

if not a mad dash
out to the driveway
to watch fireworks
over the dark treeline?

Let’s Play House

An uncut page of paper dolls hold possibilities
still
Inside a trunk
dresses are waiting
bare dolls in a basket
sigh
A plastic purse
candy bar
and kitten
magic makers
social call beats social media
yesterday, today
let’s play house

Sex

Lines, inches link laced redden
brawn flex recurrent flesh
incessant rhythm place me
in the grave
with a whisper
beckon lungs without air
to force a scream
savor what you’ve done
willing and defiant

Separation

We speak in abstracts-
sunshower-soaked conversations
pooling in inkblots at our feet.

C in Country 26

Boots scooting in time–
a country cliché indeed–
I proudly wear heels.

Hollows

there a miles within miles
spread across mountains
where the shadows carry
the wieght of indecency
and the crimes placed
upon all of us

because they think
the impoverished
deserve what they get
all
of
dying
thinking that soon
we’re all gonna make it
through all this shit
