Emptiness
You were a great oak
until you were cut,
felled into a block of wood,
shaved and hollowed and sunken into
until you were a bowl
without weight
bearing water without your leaves.

Wow. Bearing water without your leaves. Therefore not serving oneself to live, as that is no longer an option, but to fuel/serve another.
Shaved and hollowed and sunken. Powerful words.
Yes, exactly! Glad you enjoyed it.
I agree with Mary, those three verbs are powerful; they make me feel the weight of the tree’s loss. Very well done, especially since you crafted such a lovely poem in a time limit!
Thank you so much, Katrina!
Incredible ending to a powerful poem!
Adore this line:
bearing water without your leaves.
I was pretty proud of that one — thank you!
Love this line:
shaved and hollowed and sunken into
Aw, thank you!
