Beginning A Month Of Poetry
Beginning A Month Of Poetry
June is finally here,
I face it with a bit of fear,
Can I really write a poem every day?
I’m betting that I can,
Though I’m not a betting man,
I realize it’s only me that’s in my way.
I have no doubt that my writin’,
Is the thing my mind’s been fightin’,
But this challenge brings a bit of discipline,
So with some literary hocus pocus,
I’ll try to bring to bear some focus,
I’ll labor o’re pen and paper and begin.
With acknowledgement of fear,
I should be writing poems all year,
And not just be waiting for today,
Clunking ‘round inside my brain,
A haiku or quatrain,
Which until written just won’t go away.
And once I’ve done the deed,
I find it’s all the therapy I need,
Suddenly all things look better all around,
On the page I’ve poured my heart,
Once I’ve taken it apart,
And I smile at the peace I have found.
I’ll do my best to recall that feeling,
It’s delicious and appealing,
And I know there’s no better use of time,
Than to organize my thoughts,
Domesticated once they are caught,
Rounded up and printed out in rhyme.

What a great way to start the challenge! I loved reading this poem and was reminded of the things that hold me back around writing. Thank you!
Yes! Right there with you! Looking forward to reading more of your writing this month.

when it comes ’round,
you’re always there
What a terrific way to kick off the month – I always admire those who make the daily poem their mission. I have never been close…
I like the thought of domesticated words! I’m looking forward to seeing your work this month.
This brought a huge smile to my face Jerry – I am so looking forward to reading your work this month!
I delight in a good rhyme poem
