Wisdom Recovered from AP Essays
–a found poem
Belonging is a feeling that humans
constantly crave.
The desire to socialize and experience the world around us
is a sensation gifted
to almost every human being.
Humans find heaven in sonder,
realizing that everyone carries their own conflicts
and weary circumstances.
When given the opportunity to explore new worlds and meet new people,
do we welcome it, or shy away?
London is well-recognized for its nice view
of the Eiffel Tower,
and the pastries–like croissants.
Even among brutalist towers, it’s hard to feel lonely,
surrounded by a moving stream of life.

This is lovely!
Love it, especially the last line. It is hard to feel alone when surrounded by the buzz of life.
So enjoyed reading and viewing your work this year, Gaby. To your health.
This photo and poem
strike the eye and inner ear
with an artistic sense of life.
What a gorgeous poem, Gaby! The image is excellent. I especially love the last line. Thank you for sharing these beautiful gems with us all month! 💜
Love this! Always enjoy your photographs with words that match!
Great combination of snippets. I’ve never been to London, but I’ve seen the Eiffel Tower – maybe it was a travelling exhibition?
Terrific, Gaby! Thanks for your poems—not to mention your remarkably insightful feedback—this month.
I remember those AP days… These really are some great bits of wisdom, and you’ve laid them out beautifully!
Great “found poem.” So much to ponder.
Love the word ‘sonder,’ New to me.
❤️ the visual and auditory pairing, Gaby. “ Belonging is a feeling that humans / constantly crave” is so relatable.
Be well till we meet again next June
Pure gold! Clever. I love how the piece transitions seamlessly from deep, existential human truths to London’s famous “Eiffel Tower and croissants”. A witty and joyful piece to wrap up the month. And I have so enjoyed your poetic visuals! 💙✨
Thank you for sharing your daughter’s first poem with me! Wonderful! Sharing poetry with a child is such a gift- for all.
I love the question, “do we welcome it, or shy away?” and think it’s an important one to assess for ourselves. Wonderful day-30 poem and photo!
