A gulp
of swallows swoops and swerves,
they scoop a perfect winner’s serve.
My whoops can’t match their fearless nerve—
those loops made up of more than verve,
their hoops a risky dead-man’s curve—

Great rhythm!
Love! The rhymes are so clever.
Musically beautiful and a rhyme scheme that doesn’t let you down.
Whimsical and sensory. The sounds are vibrant.
The s sounds echo the movement in the poem. I was ducking big time.
Love the movement and the way you landed this great poem,”their hoops a risky dead-man’s curve—”
Sings with rhythm! Well-crafted and rich, vibrant imagery. Thank you, Nancy
Ah! Not simply delightful, but masterfully crafted. Brava, Nancy! This is wonderful! (And I have a special place in my heart for what I call “kick start” poems — where the title functions with the poem as a first line. Philip Larken used that quite a bit. It’s a device I really like.)
Thanks ever so much for sharing this!
