Aquarium Mermaids
smile with bubbles stuck between gleaming teeth,
tendrils of cheap wig floating
as they wave at me
from behind the glass, but tail or not, they
remind me of the old woman who carried her tank
of air on a walker, every week told me how much I’d grown.
I look away while the mermaids take a hit of oxygen.

I’m glad you wrote this. It reminds me of a poem I will write later this month simply : Mermaids…
Thank you, this means a lot, especially considering I almost didn’t post yesterday. I look forward to reading your rendition of Mermaids!
