Ask Me How I Really Feel
The best day
is the day it all declines
the moment announcing the end
of the reign of brightness,
the tyranny of heat,
the need to do, my goodness,
the urgent productivity
of a forced summer break.
Has anyone loved anything
so much as I love this solstice –
but for a moment, triumphant,
then followed by the year
sliding comfortably back
toward the dark.

Yes. I love the ending of this piece and look forward to the slide towards the fall
Me too!
Drop dead gorgeous poem. The ending is killer.
Thanks so much Kevin!
Love! ..my fav is “my goodness”. It’s the breath the poem (and this moment) need!
I almost wore myself out writing it, the my goodness was natural exasperation lol I’m glad it works!
I like the structure and pacing of this. It seems like it should end with a question mark, though.
Thank you – I see what you mean. I don’t like question marks but I might rearrange the sentence into a statement that answers
Yup I agree with the others
This is beautiful on the page
With the smirk of the title
I get the attitude of it.
Oh and of course
Tell us how you really feel …lol
LOL I’m basically a vampire hiding from the sun. Thanks Coleman!
Agree with Emily above that “my goodness” is perfectly placed and delivers a grounding voice. Love the ending.
I’m so glad, it’s my own actual voice taking a breath so I’m glad it contributes to the poem, thank you!
I agree with all the above comments.

The beginning is brilliant, and then it gets better.
