Coffee Snob
I found a new coffee shop today
well, new to me at least;
parking was ample, sandwiches warm,
there’s even a few open outlets
bright open windows bookended
by walls of exposed, rough, red brick
giant monstera and pothos abound
grounded in the scent of deep comfort
I write this review with the thought of you
how we will never visit together
because I see the value
in places like these and in people like me
but you’d never give up your Starbucks.

Love the humor in this poem!
Thank you so much, Linda, it’s so good to see a familiar name or two for LexPoMo! Can’t wait to read what you share this month (and always) 🙂
Haha I love this!! It’s such a enjoyable statement against big corporations vs small buisnesses. Made me chuckle!
Thanks so much, EDL! To be honest, I definitely still get my fair share of Starbucks, but it’s the places local to our community that feel so much more meaningful!
I had to laugh at this, since I just actually tried a new (to me) coffee place just a few hours ago. This captures how nice it is to experience new things while at the same time feeling exasperation, or maybe even pity, for those a bit too stuck in their ways.
Definitely! Thanks for the comment L. 🙂
Hi Sarah, what have you got against Starbucks? 😉
Seriously, it’s good to be reading you again.
Kevin!!! I’m so glad to see your name here. Truthfully, I’ll snatch Starbucks when I’m on the run all the time lol. It’s those places that feel special and like they open up your world that mean so much to me, and there are some who I think don’t ever care to explore those sorts of places. (I’ll definitely take Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Latte most days in the fall) 😉
Name the place, friend!
And I don’t even drink coffee…
Fanny!!! Bonjour, mon amie! I can’t wait to see any poems you share. How about I show you this secret coffee oasis when you return to the states?! 😛
I love the ending :]
I love that you love the ending because I almost ended it differently and wasn’t sure about this one 🤗! 💕
This one is perfectly balanced. Who doesn’t love a great independent coffee shop? And I say this as an avid tea drinker. I appreciate the love your piece shares with us. Those local places are gems.
Thank you, H.A.! I am actually more of a tea drinker than a coffee drinker, too, haha. I love a mid-day and early evening tea to recenter! <3
ha! great last line! yes.
