This reminds me of E.E. Cummings work. I love the way you played with the structure!!
Thank you Alora. For reading and seeing it 😀
Yes! Marvelous cento, and way to honor Laverne’s words! Secrets and silence and the hanging That– can’t ask for more!
Yay!! It worked…..thanks Sylvia.
Yeah ….lol….she knew i was doing one , i hope she likes the final.
I can see Laverne’s writing in the works but the arrangement is very effectively yours. That hanging “that–” leaves us at the crest of the wave of the poem in a compelling way
Shaun…..YAY 😀
Thank you, always for.your insight and deep readings. They really do help us. ❤️
well done to honor Laverne and creative!
Hi !!! Yay yeah ! poets having conversations qith poems about poems is soooooo cooooool
Fantastic work, Coleman. The cento is a daunting challenge to me, one I haven’t accepted yet, so your courage is on full display here. I do have one question: You say the poem consists of first lines from Laverne Zabielski’s poems. What about the form? Is that too from her work, all or in part?
Lee, what if do is take, their li es and make it a long string of unpunctuated words and then peel them off the string, i juat let thw form instinct itself. Laverne’s felt like couplets and similar to those tanka acrostic that I was building last year, it really does fwel.like some essence off the author assists qith the feeling of it.
Very well done, Coleman!
Thank you John
I love a cento, and this one is incredible! The shape and the structure add something special to the piece. And that ending:
” with eyes closed, I’m
riding(that wave) That—”
Amazing! I’m surfing and hanging onto that wave with ya with ‘That—’
Such a cool write!
Thanks 😀 for all of your deep seeing …..it helps, it matters.
You are turning into a cento master. Glad to see you tackling (very gently) Laverne. I suspect she’ll be honored.
I also got a whiff of ee cummings here… He’s never far away from you, is he?
Uncle Eddie is a little nutz but never far, I think we’ll keep him around …..lolol
Thanks kevin
A beautiful act of literary love and creative communion, Coleman. Hmmmmm…maybe one day i’ll give this a shot. Thanks for sharing.
Jeremy, thank you…..and yes! It is fun! Careful considering of the authors tender connection to their words is recommended 😉
Great Cento. Love the short lines and shape and use of ( ) and —
Yessss “place where/thoughts/& ideas/penetrate—” and
“That—” (Agree with Shaun, a compelling hang).
Thank you Pam ❤️
Coleman this is an amazing cento. If I were Laverne, I’d be ecstatic with what you made of my words. Love how you laid it out on the page, and that hanging ending–masterful.
” with eyes closed, I’m
riding(that wave) That—”
And now, I’m going directly to order Laverne’s book.
Yes !!!! Thank you Karen and Laverene’s book came about as part of writers project ” sensuous” in which 4 incrwdible women produced and which i was lucky and honored to kibitz some of their creative meetings.
And as always your readings of these is highly valued.
Thank you Coleman, a “beautiful act of literary love” as Jeremy Stacy said.
You are absolutely welcome and thank you.
This is lovely! The short stanzas bring to mind the shortness of breath one feels with exhilaration. Very nice.
Thanks L.
Brilliant !!!
Oh!
I like that…..ima say I did it on purpose if anybody asks 😏
Coleman, it’s perfect that you end with that hanging ending since that is the last poem and “That” is the lead in to the orgasm poem!
Thank you for seeing that laverne !!!! Yes! Now that , I can say was intentional……..great book!!!
