How I Befriend Tentative Poems
be aware of their presence
earn their trust
act slowly
do not frighten them
but let them notice me
talk gently to them
poems want to befriend me
but
tend to be skittish
be patient and
let them come to me

Playful truth!
Happy my poem resonates with you. Thanks for the feedback
Yesterday I opened my door to find a bird standing there at my apartment, staring up at me like I owed it money. Didn’t move a muscle for a solid minute, just blinked. I tried slowly stepping out of my apartment so as not to spook it, but alas, it took flight immediately. Still, the whimsy of it kept me laughing all day.
This poem has that same energy, and I love it for that. Thank you so much for sharing!
Appreciate your insightful feedback and kind words. In turn, thank you for sharing the sweet bird story. Be well
Taping this one over my desk!
Thank you for your kind words, Pam. You’ve made my day.
I did rescue for 12 years, and this reminds me of interactions with stray dogs or cats, beings who have learned to be wary, who don’t want you to grab them by the collar or put the loop of a slip pole over their head. This reminds me of lovely gray tabby who showed up at my house, and for weeks I would find time to just sit on the back step, and I fed her in my garage. Then one evening, she walked up and put on paw on my leg. Sigh…we made friends and I found her a wonder home. So, yes, I believe you are correct about some poems. They don’t want to be forced, to be “rough caught” or tricked. Sometimes we have to just let them “be” until they are ready. Thank you for this lovely poem. Great analogy!!!
