Poem in Invisible Ink
It was shortly before I died
I saw I needed to lower my sights
instead of shooting the moon
just cross the street
Once I did
the decks were cleared
like Kennedy airport
with only one or two planes
Sometimes things
you thought you knew
you have to forget you knew
and learn again
All I ever wanted to do
was pass the ball
All I wanted was just to jump
jump and touch the net

Beautiful, Mike. That last stanza is perfection.
Thank you Kevin. Sorry I missed your reading yesterday in Midway. Sounds like it was enjoyed by all
Well said, Mike!
Thank you John
Well constructed poem! Love the title. Love the conclusion.
I relate to this so much. I’ll never be William Carlos Williams; I just want to add my light to the fire that is poetry.
Another Mike gem! Love the progression of the poem.
I saw I needed to lower my sights
instead of shooting the moon
just cross the street – yes!
Powerful momentum throughout. Love “I saw I needed to lower my sights/instead of shooting the moon/just cross the street”
Nothing wrong with lowered sights if you can touch the net. Great insights here.
