Roberta
My name either means
of bright shining fame
or serious. It kind of depends
on which one of me shows up.
In reality it just signifies
my daddy wanted a son.
So they could call him
Junior or The Second.
But out I popped
lacking the credentials.
So they stuck an “a”
on the chosen name.
That’s me all right—not
very serious or famous
or male, but lordy—
can I sass!

You sure can!
You got the last word!
Yes to the sassy Lady, famous in my book for hers and for her skills as a serious distiller of poetry and fantasy.
Amen to what Kevin said!
“lacking the credentials”. – so true for many of us who got slant names because father wanted a boy.
Stay sassy!
Your name fits you perfect, Roberta.
Love: “but lordy—can I sass!”
ha! These lines made me laugh out loud:
But out I popped
lacking the credentials.
I love you all!

lovely self portrait
What a beauty of a poem, Roberta! It made me laugh and realize, as I do any time I’m in your presence, how lucky I am to know you.
Love “But I popped out/lacking the credentials.” Also that ending!
