Secret Sundress
oh
something
happens
when we grow
up near
the thick
round hip
of the world
raised
in these surf shorts
we know what it twirls like
how very wonderful it feels
when it is
our own
hem
flirting
with
our knees
when
we dance

Love: oh/something/happens
when we grow/up near/the thick/round hip/of the world
raised/in these surf shorts.
and: flirting/with/our knees/when/we dance
😂 apologies for not mentioning the other two lines of the poem ♥️
That made it better 😀 thank you !
Such a wonderful flirty, shape poem.
Thanks Linda, It was a fun one😁
I love the way this really looks like a dancer with a skirt flaring from twirling!
Thanks for seeing it 😀
Yes, the shape is important in this poem. It conjures image of dancer in surf shorts, but I also see Hawaii and the image of childhood in the first lines. Kudos for we grow/up near/the thick/round hip/of the world.
Thanks Mary, and really nice to see you.
I got busy and didn’t get to these. Yeah !!! Big Island memories
Coleman, that line about the ‘thick round hip of the world’ in the surf shorts is superb — so clever and beautiful!
Jeremy, I loved it when that line came.
Yes, thickened
lithe and fun. masterful and engaging.
Thanks for the word, lithe…ima put that in something 😀
Fantastic, and I love how the shape matches the content.
Thanks for seeing it Chelsie
This poem swirls with delight, Coleman! The rhythm and shape are just spot-on. Lovely!
Swirls 😀
exquisite indirection
I kinda wanna know how you know.
I think it’s something to do with moving closer to the equator and the way it does something with the hips 😀
The shape of this is ideal. Lovely work, Coleman.
I love the form, the simple use of language, and the way you catch our eye with that dancing hem. Great poem, Coleman.
Very well crafted.
Such a playful poem! I like the suggested
twisting hem. Love the title!
Nice!
Now I want to see you dancing in that sundress… 😏
What a delight of a poem. The shape accentuates it.
You’re a wizard poet!
Thank you Gabby
