She slinks into
the evening, the sun
saying farewell
sharp
as a knife’s edge swims
in darkness,
the moon
a comfort
she could
sink her body
around Terror
thrashes
hard and soft
lulled by the
forever
crawl, the wet certainty of
sleep, a damp heap.

potential what’s to come
ominus and final
…a damp heap
Endlessly effective with strong imagery. Placement of the lines on the page emotes a rhythm especially apparent when this poem is read aloud. Well done, Karen
I read it out loud too. It really flows and makes sense. There’s a Piscean quality in the piece. Those last three lines and haunting.
Thank you!
I’m in awe of your skill. Beautiful poem.
Thank you, Gwyneth!
I love the balanced tone and “the wet certainty of
sleep,”
Shaun, Thank you!
I can never find any fault in your erasures, Karen. This one is no exception.
Well thank you, Kevin. I was happy to see your erasure today.
Karen George, I would miss your words if I were to sick to attend this June, but I am stronger than I have been since 2019…
Thank you, Rudy!
I keep thinking about “Jaws” and the woman night swimming, oblivious to what is just beneath her.
Oh, so lovely! And the sounds at the end:
the wet certainty of
sleep, a damp heap.
The whole thing has a sense of mystery, as do so many of your erasures, & suspense.
