The First Time I Saw Someone Get Shot
(for Jamie)
My world went silent, but I saw their mouths – frozen Os.
Yanked up by my armpits, I swung through the house,
a pendulum in Mama’s hands.
She slung me into the tub; the water swirled pink.
My aunt’s thigh, still a living thing, pulsated in my hair.

Thank you, Shaun!
Well, Missy, you certainly brought the drama! Yes, nice touch with the pendulum. Wow!
Thank you, Sylvia! This is a true story shared with me by a student several years ago. The picture she painted still haunts me.
Agree with Shaun. Penduloum shows incredible movement.
Thank you, Pam!
Oh. My. God. What an appalling anecdote, what an amazing poem.
I want to say Bam! but that might be inappropriate in this case.
Keep em coming please.
Thank you, Kevin! It’s a true story from an adult ed student I had several years ago. She was in recovery from addiction; little wonder how she got there.
