The Living Room as a Train Station
Sitting on the couch with you
I try not to tie myself to the rack of inattention
Your ETAs & ETDs seem to be in Swahili
I make myself listen to your husky whisper
For the test is coming and my intention
To lurch forward can begin only
If I’m on the right track

Jim – Good to read your poems again this year. Love the title and how you progress through your journey. “I try not to tie myself to the rack of inattention” How wonderful is that!
Jim – I as well am loving your poems as per usual. I have to tell you Jim – when the beginnings of this virus (can hardly type the word) started – and all of the world was attuned to TV, laptops, phones, etc.- I thought “Who is going to tell Jim Lally!” True first thought.
Who could resist reading a poem with a title like this?! I always love your perspective! So good to read your poetry again!
‘getting on the right track” . . .how true and are we and if we are how do we know it? Love your work now and have as long as I have been privileged to read it.
Love your extended metaphor. My favorite line: “I try not to tie myself to the rack of inattention.” Perfect!
You are on the right track.
