Thoreau
Red River Gorge
with a woman
whose well-worn hands
belie all her other delicacies
i walk behind her to destination arch
to her left is a portuguesse lady
whose young ponytail bounces
like an invitation
nothing makes life so spacious
as to have two friends
ahead
at a slight distance:
they are the earth
its latitudes & longitudes

What a gorgeous poem. Love that it’s placed at Red River Gorge. That ending is stunning.
Terrific, Jim! Stanza 5 is sheer perfection.
Oh, Jim, this is beautiful!
I meant to say, I love the allusion to Thoreau!
Beautiful turn at the end
