My personal hell

has a dog who won’t stop barking.
A boss who listens closely. Makeup
tutorials like “10 Looks for Zoom Calls.”

A lady buys my washing machine.
She pays me twice. She types so bad
I think she might be a bot. She shows

up unannounced and tells me Covid
is just like the flu. Refuses to wear a mask.
When I say I have immune issues, she says, “Me too.”

She wants a refund. On the phone with the bank
for 40 minutes. Did I mention the dog. Did I
mention she’s a Trumpist. Did I mention

she says cutting her a check for the refund
is fine and then it’s not and she wants cash.
My husband is a thundercloud today.

I’m dynamite. I’m on fire. I’m in a think tank
all week, meetings 8 hours a day. All this whining
and I haven’t mentioned, tonight, we’ve got guests coming.

I promised not to stress clean. I lied.

Memories

The memories
of us
wisp
through my
mind
like a gentle
summer’s
breeze,
remembering
is like
going outside
for the
first time
in
years,
emotional.
I yearn
to
see them
again,
even to just
sit
in the
same room
as them
would be a
blessing,
but right now,
having
that many
people
in
one room is
dangerous,
so I
will wait
and
relive
these memories
until
we can
make
more.

rock candy

he says i’m a sweetheart
but i’m more like rock candy –
hard to chew
and easy to shatter.

Monsoon calls to you

Internal decibels screaming

Nothing compares to the real thing

Casting Rose Quartz Runes

A divination
Galdrabók guides wise Häxa
whispering secrets

A seer foretold death
plague & pestilence on wings
natural order

A seer foretold fire
brought forth from corruptions knee
all fall, san souci

A seer foretold storms
as Hecate cleansed dark forests
from humanity

A divination
quartz roses gathered sun stars
runes laid bare, decline

Add a Large Fry, Please

Eat a twenty-piece
then get some sleep.
United States of America,
where we shoot
hoops first then ask questions later.
Where we heal our wounds
and try to resurrect innocent
victims with thoughts and prayers.
Pulpits with broken stairs,
his gates won’t repair.
“Oh Lord, stop the chaos,”
as we reach into our wallets,
tithing to try to pay him off.
Offering all we’ve got
between a virus and a shot
I hate to question what’s left.

I’m right, there’s not.

Weeds

Like weeds,
through the inklings of light slipping in,
I, too, rise. It is a fight
to command my cells to drink up the air,
breathe in the groundwater, as if I was ever
truly worthy of rising on a green-filled day.
As green trees paint the sky with their wind-blown brushes,
as green grass dances in unison, in harmony,
as the pastel feet of laughing children leap across,
I am but a weed, clinging on to whatever good air is near.
I am but a weed,

but I am alive
and one day, I will appreciate the strength of my roots,
the green of my body,

as a child appreciates the colors of nature.

DO I BELONG HERE?

I know what you’re thinking, maybe,
At least I can sense something from your look,
Also from your tone of voice,
Or it could be from other subtle signals you’re sending.

I’m not “one of you,”
I haven’t paid my dues,
I’m not really serious or committed to this cause,
You don’t like what I stand for,
Whatever you think that is.

Funny thing is, you don’t really know me,
You just think you know what I represent,
And I’m curious as to what that is,
But, funny thing is, I’m about to stop caring what you think.

After Surgery

Wide awake
Dozing
In two places
In no place

Startled and crying
The tears dry up
I turn to stone

If I sit very still
There is no pain
If I close my eyes
There are no wounds.

Untitled

Lemon lime
Dinner time

Smash a plate
Create the crime

Chicken fat
Brain matter

Low belly growl
Cookie batter

Call me baby baby
To keep me calm

When I know truth
My anger like napalm

China against the wall
Glass stabs my feet

Hand print on your face
Take your defeat

Fingers dotted with blood
Your eyes a glaze

My eyes like fire
My soul ablaze

With a slash
I see you fall

No second thought
I watch you crawl

Cry and cry
To create sympathy

You’ve had your chance
Take your responsibility

It is now done
A breath uttered no more

I am finally free
My love for you no more
