Vacation day 2
Rusty scum ringing
The clean green water
Like light hazel eyes
Wake boards, jet skis, pontoons
Skimming the surface
Ripples drawing the mud
Closer to the center
Of lake Norris
Thunder drowning out
the talking teens’ thumping
Music, the pink pony club,
Drifting in and out
As we laze on the deck
Waiting for the storm

I notice so distinctly how fresh and strong everyone’s poems are on saturday or their states days off, and this poem is such a beautiful continuance of that trend. This feels like a vacation viscerally, for free. Thank you for sharing this. I find it challenging/impossible to experience perfection and write about it at the same time; it’s always a struggle for me to either retreat from it to write, or to have the experience instead. Thanks for a great example of doing it. Hope your vacation is wonderful.
Thank you so much! To find the space and time for it I was hiding out after everyone else had turned in and reflected on my day. It was a good one. Thank you for the feedback.
