Off Balance
I try to accommodate,
learn to walk
differently,
sashay across the floor
swinging hips, arms,
like the Creole singer
I saw once
slugging whiskey
as she danced down
the jazz-filled streets
before the flood.

I can visualize this perfectly!
love this
“sashaying down the street”
perfect
I especially love the last line.
Im gonna inject alittle experience if i may, but this describes a moment in time/ experiencethat i identify with as im transitioning (mtf) and trying to unlearn what i’ve learned and try new things; thank you for writing this!
Thanks for sharing your personal experience. It adds another layer to my thoughts about the poem.
I saw her or her sister on Bourbon street. I like this poem.
I was in New Orleans “before the flood,” and I relate to your description in a very positive way.
